Plano Pest Control: What Are Earwigs?
Table of Contents
What Is An Earwig?
Earwigs are insects that are typically found in moist environments such as rotting logs and leaf litter. In the homes of our Plano customers we notice them the most around plumbing areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and other rooms containing water sources.
Earwigs have a flat, oval-shaped body and an elongated, narrow head with large pincers at the end. They also have six short legs that allow them to move quickly.
What Causes an Earwig Infestation?
Earwigs are small insects that can crawl into your home and make a nest in your furniture. They can be difficult to get rid of because they’re hard to see and they like hiding in dark, moist places.
The best way to keep earwigs out of your home is to seal up any cracks or holes in the exterior of the house, along with your general pest control plan. You should also inspect any new furniture you bring into the house before bringing it inside, and make sure there are no cracks or holes where earwigs could crawl through.
How To Prevent An Earwig Infestation
Earwigs are a common household pest that can be found in a variety of places, including the garden, in the bathroom areas and the kitchen. These bugs are unique in that they have pincers on their abdomen, which they use to grab onto prey, while also using their antennae to find food. Earwigs can be an annoyance because they tend to crawl up walls and hide in dark corners. If you want to prevent an earwig infestation from occurring, there are some things you should do.
First, make sure that any items left out overnight are put away before bedtime; this includes food, trashcans, newspapers and any other items that could attract earwigs.
Second, check for cracks or holes in your home; if there is one present then seal it with caulking.
Third, ensure that any food items that are going to be left out overnight are covered with a paper or plastic bag, which will prevent an earwig from getting into it.
Fourth, make sure there is no standing water in your home; this includes puddles on the ground, old food left on the counter and plants with crowns on them.
